For some people, keeping warm in December is all about wearing copious amounts of knitwear, snuggling in front of a roaring log fire and enjoying roast dinners in quaint country pubs. But for others, a steaming mug of eggnog does not compare to the lure of sun-drenched beaches and the only way to escape the chill is to flee gloomy Britain and jet off to warmer climes.
Whether you’re hankering for the deliciously spicy foods and verdant scenery of south-east Asia, the easy-going nature and frosty beers of Oz, or the rum, reggae and relaxation of a dreamy Caribbean island, you're sure to find a hot-weather destination to help you shed those winter blues.
To help you choose your dream winter getaway, here’s the Flexicover team's round-up of the top five locations to visit for guaranteed hot weather this December.

Langkawi, Malaysia
Head to Langkawi, an archipelago made up of almost 100 islands, which although less well-known to Brits than the resorts of nearby Thailand, is a fantastic choice for travellers looking for more than the regulation beach break. With December's average highs of 31C and lows of 25C, plus 12 hours of sunshine a day, Langkawi is certainly hot enough to spend your time lounging around the pool or on sun-kissed beaches. Its lush islands are also fantastic spots for jungle trekking and conceal spectacular waterfalls just waiting for you to dive in.

Mauritius
Located 1,200 miles off the south-east coast of Africa, Mauritius is well worth the journey for its reliably hot weather, beautiful beaches and intriguing history: the country was colonised by the Dutch, French and British, creating a melting pot of cultures, cuisine and architecture. Jet off to Mauritius this December and you can expect daily high temperatures of 29C and lows of 23C. What's more, December is a fantastic time to go scuba diving off the coast of this tropical paradise. The water visibility is at its best between November and April, while the warm temperature attracts a wider variety of marine life around its coral reefs.

Brisbane, Australia
While Melbourne and Sydney have traditionally held more tourism appeal, we’re here to tell you that Brisbane should be your choice for an Australian getaway this December. Its subtropical climate ensures average high temperatures of 29C, while lows are a balmy 21C. Although the summer months (December to February) also bring higher rainfall, this is generally limited to intense storms that pass quickly and are followed by yet more sunshine. Take advantage of the hot weather by booking a cruise down Brisbane River, head out to Kangaroo Point Cliffs for stunning views of the city, and soak up some culture at the South Bank.

Barbados
December is a gorgeous time to visit this beautiful Caribbean island. The wet season in Barbados, the most easterly island in the Caribbean, passes in late November, leaving dry conditions with slightly lower temperatures and humidity. But don't baulk at the idea of cooler weather, as you can still expect average daily highs of 30C. Even better, the heat is made all the more pleasant by the accompanying north-easterly winds, which bring cooling breezes to the tropical island. All of which adds up to the perfect conditions for unwinding on world-class beaches like Dover, Folkestone and Silver Sands.

Cancun, Mexico
This Mexican holiday resort gets scorchingly hot at the height of summer, with an average daily maximum of 37.5C in May. But the temperature is tolerable in December, dropping to a sizzling-but-bearable 30C. Although humidity can be high at this time of year, winds come to the rescue once again, keeping the heat more comfortable. These conditions are perfect for sipping cocktails in your hotel's swim-up bar or enjoying some of their celebrated cuisine al fresco. And they also provide a great opportunity to explore the remains of Tulum or the El Rey Archaeological Zone without becoming overheated.
