Agadir, Morocco The desert heat of Morocco is a draw at any time of the year, but especially in November. The average temperature is a perfect 25C – not too cold that you need a jacket, not too hot that you need a fan. Even better, Agadir feels custom-made for holidaymakers who want to do more than work on their tan. It’s certainly famed for its Blue Flag beaches that greet the Atlantic Sea, but the bustling city itself offers the opportunity to get stuck in to the culture too, with bars, souks and spas to explore. Though Agadir was completely rebuilt in the 60s after an earthquake, it still holds plenty of traditional Arabian charm.
Halong Bay, Vietnam There’s no better time for a Vietnam break than November, when the weather is warm, the air is less humid and the skies are dry. It’s especially right for Halong Bay: the natural bay of towering rocks jutting from the waters of the South China Sea. Visitors sail there in a boat and spend the night in a cabin so having good weather makes all the difference in ensuring smooth conditions. During the day you can spend the time relaxing in the open air of the deck admiring the stunning formations. Utter bliss.
Muscat, Oman The weather can’t be beat in Muscat: we’re talking highs of 31C in the afternoon and zero rain so you can leave the umbrella at home with confidence and check out the capital of this fascinating Middle Eastern country. You’ll see throwbacks to its past as a Portuguese colony and a thriving economy today, with a myriad of shops and hotels. Its architecture is a draw in itself and out of the city its mountainous regions are ready and waiting to be explored. Melbourne, Australia
As Melbourne rises from spring to summer it’s the perfect time to head Down Under for sunshine without the sweltering temps of high summer – highs of 22C and oft-sunny skies are a refreshing break from the UK’s winter chill. Happily, it’s also the time that this vibrant city begins its annual event schedule in earnest. Melbourne Music Week sees unusual spaces in the city transform into gig venues across seven days, while horse-racing fans will be in for a treat with the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Not only are the high-adrenaline races a draw, but this year, Taylor Swift tops the entertainment part of the proceedings.
Gran Canaria If it’s simply vitamin D and a beach you’re after look no further than Gran Canaria – it’s got 60 kilometres of the stuff. There are plenty of package deals to be had for the most populous Canary Island and its accommodation ranges from budget apartments to lavish all-inclusives with bubbles for breakfast. November is a quieter month but with average temperatures of 21C, visitors benefit from all the pleasant weather without the crowds. For a day trip to break up the sun-basking, trek up to Roque Nublo Viewpoint, named after the stone created from a volcanic cloud.
