Last minute options for the August Bank Holiday

Wasn’t it the start of summer just three minutes ago? Where did time fly? It’s understandable if the grand plans for the holidays have fallen by the wayside, but if one of those was to treat yourself to a getaway, fear ye not: there’s still time for some precious R&R. While there’s certainly a saving in booking early, there are still decent deals to be had - even when travelling over the best bank holiday of the year, on 26 August.

From luxury brand hotels in Dubai to an olde worlde city break in Tallinn, there’s plenty of options at relatively reasonable prices. So make the most of the extra day off and give in to the travel bug within you. That way, you’ll have even more to cover in your ‘what I did this summer’ discussions.

Tempted? Here’s the Flexicover team’s five favourite holidays for the bank holiday weekend. And remember, these are fully independent picks, delivered to you with only great holidaying in mind.

Five nights all inclusive in Ibiza, from £691 per person

How about a top-rated, all-inclusive hotel in Ibiza for a bank holiday break? Teletext Holiday’s five-night trip to this Balearic Island might seem on the pricey side at first, at £691 including flights from London Southend on Saturday 24 August. But it includes flights and also all delicious meals and drinks at a revered four-star hotel that has the thumbs up from TripAdvisor reviewers. Found at the northern tip of Ibiza, it’s an adults’ only hotel, meaning the last of the summer holidays won’t be interrupted by little ones. The area around the hotel showcases the relaxed side of Ibiza, but party-loving guests can find their way to the clubs if desired.

Four nights in Nice, France, from £415 per person

If you can’t choose between a city break and a beach break, Nice offers both – in fabulous style. The focal point of the glamorous Cote d’Azur, Nice attracts everyone from beach bums to glamorous glitterati, and August is the perfect time to head over and people-watch. On The Beach have a four-night holiday staying at the Alba Hotel, in the heart of the action. You’ll be surrounded by fine restaurants, bars and clubs, and just minutes away from the action-packed beach. At £415 per person including return flights from Edinburgh on Saturday 24 August, it might even leave a few bob spare for a glass of champers.

Three nights in Dubai, from £746 per person

For guaranteed sunshine and luxury, Dubai is a-calling. The emirate is full of fabulous beaches and hotels, specifically designed so that visitors will want for nothing. Holiday Pirates have a special offer that bundles together flights from Newcastle on Friday 23 August (with Emirates no less), and a double room at the five-star, top-rated Grosvenor House, which features two spas, a bar with live DJ and indoor and outdoor pools among its facilities. Located right on Dubai Marina, there are plenty of attractions in the vicinity, from the famous malls to the The Palm. But be warned: the hotel is so luxurious it will be hard to leave.

Three nights in Tallinn, Estonia, from £406 per person

Heading away for a quick last-minute break needn’t break the bank. There are huge amounts to explore in the historic city of Tallinn, and with easyJet Holidays, it’s possible to head over for three nights for £406 per person. That price includes flights from London Gatwick on Thursday 22 August. You’ll enjoy both bed and breakfast at St Barbara Hotel, a few steps away from the beautiful old town, with its Eastern European feel and eventful history. Estonia is well-known for its well-priced bars, taverns and restaurants, so a little spending money will go a long way. Best of all the airport is a 15-minute ride from the centre of Tallinn, meaning precious time won’t be lost in transit.

Five nights in Costa del Sol, Spain, from £562 per person

Here’s an option for a good old fashioned fly’n’flop. TUI has a holiday to the Hotel Nerja Club in Costa del Sol for £562, including flights from London Gatwick on Sunday 25 August. The price includes half board accommodation, which means you can stock up on a buffet breakfast, see where the wind takes you during the day, and return back to the hotel for dinner. That’s especially useful as a Blue Flag Beach is a 15-minute walk away, allowing for a spot of exploration. In the evening, enjoy the hotel’s live entertainment, or take a book and sit out on your balcony to enjoy the glittering view of Nerja at night. Bliss.
