National Park Galičica And Ohrid, Macedonia

Near Macedonia’s borders with Albania and Greece, the National Park Galičica is ideal for grandparents who want to show their loved ones how beautiful the world can be. Within its 88 square miles, the nature-rich park packs in more than 1,000 species of flora and is flanked by two pristine Balkan lakes: Lake Prespa and Lake Ohrid, one of the deepest lakes in Europe. The UNESCO-protected town of Ohrid is worth a visit in its own right: it has 365 beautiful churches that dot the town with a historical beauty. Head there in July and August for even more to do: it’s when the Ohrid Summer Festival takes place, with a full schedule of entertaining theatre and music shows.

The Rocky Mountains, USA

Home to one of the world’s most iconic backdrops and countless family-friendly activities, the Rocky Mountain region in the USA – in states including Colorado, Montana, and Utah – is an excellent destination for grandparents to take the grandkids. During the summer months, groups can splash about in the hot springs, amble along scenic trails in the national parks and play a ball game or two in the parks.
